Huge thanks to Emily Jasmine, Sustainability Facilitator at Ruapehu District Council, who helped us carry out a Waste Audit this week (during Recycling Week!) – and all our team members who helped out. We had some great buy in and support for our action plan going forward! We sorted and weighed a 5 day sample of our rubbish43.1kg in total! 5 days ago we were only diverting 34.8% of our waste away from the landfill, mostly due to contamination in the recycling bins and food/paper waste not being diverted efficiently. But we’re now on a mission with a very clear target! Emily reckons that we should be able to divert 77.9% (33.6kg) of our waste collection away from landfill. We’ll most certainly do our best. Worm farms in place and a commitment from staff to recycle correctly whilst also encouraging our guests to do the same! Zero waste is the target!
