NEW TOURS FOR 2021! Tours commence mid-November
If you’ve travelled with us by Rail Cart before or you’re a first-time explorer in this stunning part of the central North Island, then we have designed a whole new way to explore the Forgotten World with you in mind. Forgotten World Adventures are introducing the magnificent Rhine of the Pacific tours this summer season.
The Whanganui River was historically positioned as our very own ‘Rhine’ in the early 1900s, connecting the major cities of Auckland and Wellington and providing a unique adventure to globe trotters of generations past.
This year, we’ll step right back into those travellers’ shoes. You’ll be immersed in the history of the river and its beauty, on and offshore. You’ll hear stories of our forefathers and the cultural significance of the awa. This is luxury time travel with a modern twist, as you'll choose a conservation or sustainability focus to your tour with 2 nights’ accommodation at either Blue Duck Station or Posh Pioneers.
You will need good walking mobility for this tour.

Travel New Zealand's longest navigable waterway
Travel the full length of the Whanganui River and discover its past.
Start with a guided shuttle to Whanganui followed by a lovely riverside lunch and a relaxing cruise on one of Hatrick's original riverboats. Let our local guides show you historic points of interest from London (Ranana) to Athens (Atene) and Jerusalem (Hiruhārama) including a gallery, convent, and a Marae. Enjoy a scenic jet boat ride and bushwalk into the infamous Bridge to Nowhere with Whanganui River Adventures. For the next two nights choose between seeing Whio duck conservation efforts OR select the bucket-list opportunity to live life ‘off the grid’ (glamorously). Relax in your surroundings on day three or select from the accommodation providers list of optional activities, then explore the ever-aromatic Lauren’s Lavender Farm on day four.
Good health and mobility required (bush walk and stairs involved)
